Authorizing Statute & Enabling Acts

The Lathrop Manteca Fire District was initially established as two separate legal and governmental agencies: Manteca Rural County Fire Protection District and the Lathrop Rural County Fire Protection District.  

Both entities were duly organizational under California Governing Statutes of their time. Reorganized in 1956 through a merger, both agencies were consolidated to form the Manteca Lathrop Rural County Fire Protection District. In 1987 the California State Legislator and Governor crafted and signed into law the Fire Protection District Law of 1987. This law under Health & Safety Code Section 13803 states in part: 

"...(a) This part provides the authority for the organization and powers of fire protection districts.  This part succeeds the Fire Protection District Law of 1961 and all of its statutory predecessors.  Any fire protection district organized or reorganized pursuant to the Fire Protection District Law of 1961 or any of its statutory predecessors which was in existence on January 1, 1988, shall remain in existence as if it had been organized pursuant to this part..."

Today the fire district provides services as the Lathrop Manteca Fire District and continues its long standing relationship to excellence since its earliest beginnings.
