How old do I have to be to apply?

You must be between the ages of 14 to 20 years old.

What's the program about?

The program is a collaborative effort between the Lathrop Manteca Fire District and the Boy Scouts of America that is open to both girls and boys. At its core, our Explorer Post is a mentorship program. Its main objective being to give young people life skills to make better decisions as adults.  Our program coordinators work to model core values such a strong work ethic, pride, passion and leadership. Whether applied to a career in the fire service or any profession our cadets will be outstanding employees regardless of their career path.

Will being a member of Explorer Post 31 help me get a job in the fire service?

Explorer Post 31 aims to help our Explorer Post Cadets follow their dreams. Our career professional firefighters take their own experiences and knowledge that they wish they would've had and provide these insights to each cadet. Exploring is all about experimenting and exploring what careers are in the fire service. Cadets may find that they enjoy enforcing codes in fire prevention, building inspections, fire investigations, and even follow the dream of many that one day ride on a fire engine! Our coordinators take highly motivated individuals exploring a career in the Fire Service and expose them to the rewards of giving back to the community.

What explorers do?

• Safety Gear: Learn about it, how it is used, putting it on, and maintaining it in a state of readiness
• Tools: Gain knowledge in what tools firefighters use and occasionally put those tools to use during simulated exercises
• Fire Apparatus: understanding the purpose of the different vehicles the fire district uses, and occasionally rides with firefighters on them to understand how emergency services are delivered to the community
